Guide to Mallorca

Guide to Mallorca

everything you need to know

Azure blue waters, rugged mountains embracing picturesque villages, and a vibrant culture that takes you back in time. Mallorca, a 45-minute flight from Barcelona is a gem nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Whether you're a sun-soaking beach lover, an avid hiker, a history buff, or a culinary adventurer, Mallorca offers an escape for every traveler. It made the perfect destination for a girl’s trip with my bestie Dani and would be perfect for a couple’s trip, a larger group trip, or a solo adventure.

Where to Stay

The island may be larger than you think, so picking a location will be an important step in your planning. As nature lovers, we decided to stay on the west side of Mallorca at Hotel Hoposa Costa D’or . Surrounded by the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains and the Balearic Sea as the backdrop, our stay was truly a blissful escape. We loved our quiet location which was a short drive to the gorgeous mountain towns of Deia, Soller, Port de Soller, and Valldemossa.

Both Dani and I could not recommend staying here enough (we actually wanted to gatekeep it) and loved our location on the island. If you are looking for more liveliness I would suggest staying in Palma, and if you prefer more of the white sand beaches consider the east and southeast end of Mallorca.

How to get around

After reading that it’s hard to get around the island without a car, we rented a Mini Cooper Convertible for our trip and again, could not recommend this more. Having a car gave us the freedom to explore all over the island, but there are definitely some things to know ahead of time. Luckily for you, I made a video with everything you need to know in the caption here

we rented with ok mobility through expedia which was easy access in the palm airport, affordable and fun

What to Do

With only 4 days, we wanted a mix of adventure and relaxing, here is a list of what we did:

  • Cala Deia is a stunning, rocky beach with one of Mallorca’s most famous restaurants Ca’s Patro Marche. Instagram has recently caught on to these spots (for good reason, it’s stunning) so I would suggest reading the caption of this video I made to make sure you are prepared.

  • Son Moragues Olive Farm. This was one of our major highlights and would recommend 11/10. They offer different experiences like olive oil tastings, longer hikes, and what we booked, a tour of the farm and picnic. We learned about the history of the farm, how they produce their olive oil, and the picnic had enough food to feed us all day.

if you didn’t eat your body weight in olives, did you even go to spain?

  • Shopping in Valldemossa after you visit the farm, stop in the cute town of Valldemossa to shop at their brick-and-mortar shop to bring home their olives, olive oil, gin, and other exceptional products. Valldemossa has lots of cute shops, so spend the afternoon walking the streets.

  • Hiking in Serra de Tramuntana: This UNESCO World Heritage-listed mountain range offers breathtaking landscapes and endless hiking trails.

  • Alcudia Boat Tour This is a highly reviewed 4 hours boat tour that takes you to other untouched parts of the island. Dani and I unfortunately had a mix-up and missed our booked tour (as you do) but if we ever go back I would 100% book this.

  • Soller Boat Tour If you are looking for a shorter 2-hour boat tour closer to Soller/Deia, this tour was also highly reviewed!

  • Watch the Sunset if you choose to stay on the west side of the island, you are in for some exceptional sunsets. We grabbed some snacks from the market, and champagne, and set out some towels on the cliffs outside our hotel for a secluded sunset.

    • If you are staying in the Deia/Soller area, I would mark a few locations on Google Maps like Port de Valldemossa and Caló de s'Estaca, load the car with picnic gear, and have a chill sunset night.

we love a girl dinner even in mallorca

Where to eat

Nama Southeast-Asian and Mallorcan fusion, this was the best meal we had in Mallorca hands down. They have two beautiful terraces overlooking Deia. Reserve ahead!

Café Sóller for a hearty meal and a central location in Soller

Hotel L’Avenida al fresco lunch in Soller

La Residencia @ The Belmond we booked this trip somewhat last minute, so it was too late to get a reservation at any of the Belmond’s three restaurants. Definitely book as early as you can at El Olivo for fine-dining, Café Miró, or the Tramuntana Grill.

Sa Foradada We didn’t have a chance to go, but this restaurant is high on our list for next time. The views and their traditional Mallorcan menu and paella look incredible.
